John Mews, MA, MTA
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
MUSIC THERAPIST
FAMILY COUNSELOR
John Mews has been working with families and children affected by development disabilities in the greater Vancouver region for the past eight years. After he completed his bachelors degree in music therapy, John started his music therapy private practice, Mewsic Moves. John is also an accomplished musician, having played the piano and sung for his church from the age of three. Throughout his personal and professional experience, John has witnessed the amazing power of music to evoke change in just about anyone.
In his music therapy practice, John has tailored his music therapy programs towards children and adolescents on the developmental spectrum. John's approach is to leverage the child's existing strengths to build the necessary confidence early on so that goals and objectives can be achieved as quickly and effectively as possible.
John is grateful to be working with a very talented team that shares his passion for working with this client population. He uses feedback from parents as well as his staff to continually improve the programs and practices offered at Mewsic Moves.
After completing his Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology in Marriage and Family Therapy, John began providing counseling to couples, families, and siblings who are facing everyday life with a family member who has developmental disabilities. John felt his practice needed to add family counseling services, having seen firsthand the many challenges faced by families of children with special needs.
John has been a speaker at numerous workshops and conferences, where he has happily shared his passion for music therapy, and works tirelessly to bring greater awareness to its many benefits across a wide range of clinical settings. |
